In an ice-cold Athenian apartment of white marble,
in November 2023, I sat shivering, hunched over my bass guitar,
pondering what it means to be human. It’s about
process optimization, technology as a substitute religion,
and that slight shiver that runs through you
when you realize how profound your sympathy
for a chatbot can become.
Stylistically, Maschinenliebe draws on the retro-futurism
of ’80s wave and krautrock—an era when technology
and robotics still seemed so distant
that their romantic idealization feels entirely understandable today.
But as always, I found it hard to stick strictly to one genre.
The result is a deeply “ver-KNEU-belt” interpretation of this music.
