The Mimus Decent, the second release in the saga.domaine catalog, is an outcome of Jerusalem-based sound artist Lior Pinsky’s deepening and evolving practice of tape music. The piece, made up of Pinsky’s field recordings and analog keyboards recorded onto tape, integrating eerie tape manipulations and empyrean harmonies, goes through metaphysical environments in which the birth and death of peculiar organisms can be found among remnants of distant melodies.
Lior Pinsky has been experimenting with tape compositions for the past half-decade, building his own DIY cassette players to manipulate playback speed and texture in real time. His studio work starts with several sound sources: analog keyboards, found cassettes and tapes of field recordings, fed into circuit-bent tape players, creating multi-layered compositions that carry and emphasize the special sonic nature of the physical tape, giving his music a sense of nostalgia and wild abstract spaces. Pinsky's interest in Zen Buddhism meets his practice of ambient tape music to form a unique work in which elements appear and disappear without a grip, leaving only a thin trace of occurrence.
