HEALING002 – Low Earth – Medicinal Drum EP

Healing Potions returns with its second release, with Low Earth — a new alias of a.dixen, working in the tradition of artists who use monikers to carve out space for a different kind of thinking.

Medicinal EP is five tracks made in a matter of days, recorded live before leaving behind an old studio and a long history with it. The producer camped in the space, set up a live rig in front of the speakers, and pressed record. Twelve pieces came out. Five are here. ‘It was almost a goodbye séance — the last sessions in a deeply familiar room before closing the door on a decade and stepping into a new chapter.’

Experimental dub techno at its core, though that framing undersells it. Echo and reverb as architecture, analogue textures travelling and decaying across the stereo field, minimal percussive grooves carrying the weight while modular melodics surface and drift. Warm, melancholic, and fragile in the way that things made in the moment tend to be. The focus throughout is texture, atmosphere, and what happens when you stop editing and let the thing be what it is.

'Medicinal Drum' opens with a shamanic dub pulse that quiets the mind and pulls you closer in — textures scattered at different depths, the drum itself feeling like a presence walking beside you. 'The Bell Rings True' is ten minutes of deep psychedelic 4x4 with an organic momentum that accumulates phrase by phrase until everything converges at once and then dissolves again. 'Unsung' with playful groove, a reverberating kick that bounces rather than pounds, an immersive, psychedelic and textured atmosphere, shifting tempo mid-track before evolving into something more ethereal. And then dissolving at the end like a memory going soft at the edges. 'The Wheels of Regress' goes off-grid entirely — IDM-adjacent, tension building slowly through crackling sounds and unresolved patterns before landing somewhere unexpectedly gentle. 'Surplus Strong' closes the EP on its most physical note — driven, psychedelic, a deep groove that pushes forward — and the point where melancholy tips into the energy that carries you forward.
