Made by good chums Madi Marston (illustrator) and Matt Hsu (colour and story), the children’s art gallery colleagues and bicycle bandits came together to create the Matt Hsu’s Obscure Orchestra comic, which chronicles the origins of the joyful community-minded orchestral punk ensemble, from sparks of music love as a child to snowballing into one of the country’s most kooky, eclectic and wonderful ‘wonky-maximalism’ music communities.

This comic forms part of MHOO’s twin album release ‘Noodle’ and ‘Forest Party’, collectively known as ‘Slowly Made Songs for Curious Ears’. Every comic will include high fidelity music downloads for both albums and other little digital knick-knacks.

Madi Martson is a Magandjin/Meanjin (Brisbane) based illustrator and comic artist. She likes collecting cute trinkets and taking care of her two tamagochis.

Matt Hsu aka Matt Hsu’s Obscure Orchestra is a Magandjin/Meanjin (Brisbane), based Taiwanese-Australian composer, anti-racism activist and ramen lover. He leads the ensemble also called Matt Hsu’s Obscure Orchestra, who comprise of First Nations, disabled, queer, trans, non-binary, neurodiverse and BIPOC artists; and are knitted together by community-mindedness, DIY spirit and joyful anti-colonial noise making.
