Atlanta, Georgia’s Mawn Lower inaugurates his new VOSK imprint with the hazy raw house leaning "Motion Detection" EP.
The EP explores themes of emerging from a concealed, invisible state. The cover photo was shot on Jackson Street Bridge in Atlanta, a very popular touristic spot. It’s symbolic in that Atlanta is of the of the most monitored cities in America with 60,864 cameras for 490,270 people.
"Dusty" perfectly sets the tone as Mawn Lower lays down a crisp saturated rhythm section alongside sweeping filtered pads, bright stab sequences and choppy vocals.
Following is "Fair Fight" which then leans into dub territory courtesy of more reduced drums, spiralling echoes and subtly unfurling atmospherics.
Opening the flip side is "Fine Print", an ethereal slice of deep house fuelled by processed vocal loops, airy Rhodes melodies and swinging percussion.
"Cleansing Lounge" then rounds out the release and once again shifts sonically towards off-kilter 808 drums, dreamy textures and squelchy acid bass.
