Following their debut single “Dizzy Spells”, Hamburg based Post-Punk outfit monoslug. return with “Mantra” – a track that fuses the band’s raw energy with unexpected depth. Between clattering riffs, dark reverb-drenched spaces, and driving grooves, a song unfolds that steadily builds up only to collapse in on itself again.
“Mantra is an inner monologue between urban restlessness and the longing for stability – a song about routines that start to crack, about parallel lives that brush against each other but never truly connect,” says vocalist and bassist Birgit about the track.
monoslug. combine syncopated bass riffs with guitars soaked in reverb and delay. It clangs and crashes, yet remains rhythmically tight and melodically compelling. They’ve crafted a unique sound somewhere between the pounding intensity of Bauhaus, the urgency of SPRINTS, and the dark atmosphere of Whispering Sons.
Time and again, everything breaks loose and screeches, spiraling wildly in all directions—only to snap back into an intense mood that fully highlights Birgit’s lyrics. At the heart of it all is a desire to create movement. monoslug. make tracks that are as cathartic as they are captivating.
Birgit’s lyrics are vivid, almost like an additional instrument in the mix. They capture moments inspired by real life, yet feel surreal—like sleepwalking with eyes wide open. Her storytelling invites listeners to dive in and discover their own meanings.
The band, made up of Birgit Welink (vocals + bass), Sören Heuer (guitar), and Tillmann Frohberg (drums), was formed in 2023, with Tillmann joining at the end of 2024.
