Editions Refined is proud to present its inaugural release "Till The End" by Nelg Legof. A strange, deconstructed take on the work of Britney Spears that investigates the insidious and tragic reality of her life and stardom, while also celebrating her music and legacy. "Till the End will consist of a titular debut album by Nelg Legof, my musician alter-ego, released by Editions Refined/Crude Tapes as a limited edition CD and for digital streaming, and a music video using a super-cut of the tracks.
The album will be released on May 26, 2023, and the video will be released shortly after in the summer of 2023.
Till the End is created from karaoke stems of nine Britney Spears tracks spanning from 1999 to 2016. Over half of the tracks are from Blackout (2007) and Circus (2008), made in the immediate aftermath of Britney’s 2006 public mental health crisis that spawned the 13-year conservatorship her father controlled until September of 2021.
Till the End sounds dark and minimal, transforming highly produced pop hits into experimental electronica. The album and the forthcoming video manipulate the aesthetics of mainstream production values to deliver an incisive and menacing critique of celebrity culture, female objectification, gender norms, and the rise of capitalist-driven narcissism fueled by social media. This critique will be balanced with my deep admiration and respect for Britney Spears and her immense impact on pop music. "
