"The Pure Delusion EP is a wonderful effort from Montreal producer Persuasion (who's previously worked under the names D. Hansen, Lotide and Stefan Jós). Developed from music originally created for a live set at the 2019 edition of MUTEK, it's essentially an exercise in low-key, richly melodic techno, hinting at emotional grandeur without ever needing to resort to cheap theatrics. With its wispy pads and disembodied vocal refrains, “Pure Delusion" actually reminds me a bit of Joy Orbison's classic “Hyph Mngo,” though the song's shuffling rhythm skillfully dials down the energy level, making the whole thing feel more like a wistful daydream than an epic night at the club."
