Cold, frenetic and packed with twists and turns, “ECLIPSE” captures TCV in playful form. Berlin-born and bred, the professional guitarist and producer paints soundscapes primed for synesthesia: one moment cosmically rearranging the planets, the other capturing a neuronal scramble for dopamine. It’s music that’s angular like a sharp corner in Wipeout and emotionally ambiguous like a cyber tribal tattoo.
A wide sense of space and a core sensitivity for melody underpin much of “ECLIPSE”. Fragments of the old world appear in their ultra processed form or as trace elements of jungle, drill, and breaks. The 90s Japanese cyberpunk (964 Pinocchio,Tetsuo: The Iron Man, Akira…) that informed the making of the EP is a thematic driving force. Just as cyberpunk blurs the lines between natural world and synthetic appendages, TCV dissolves the boundary between high-tech sound design and full-impact club potency.
“FULL MARS” is the cornerstone of the EP. It’s a wide sounding composition articulated around a haunting melody and pads designed for solitary drifts through space. It sets the mood for a collection of tracks that build and release tension as they progress. On “DRIFT” and “ECLIPSE” sounds tighten and loosen up as if squeezing through the throat of a wormhole. Diamond-tipped synths morph into bursts of velocity that give the impression of emerging straight out of a forcefield. Rich harmonies play the role of the watchful eye, always reining in the tracks before they can truly veer off course. The sound design showpiece of “HALF MOON” and the high intensity workout of “WARP” round off the release
On the remix front, Athens producer xato takes a sledgehammer to the title track, sanding off the subtleties and pushing the drums to their militant limit. 76666 label boss and close TCV collaborator Chaos Angel turns “FULL MARS” into the beatless symphony it was always meant to be. Meanwhile, TCV shows off his self-recycling skills and mashes up multiple single elements of previously released tracks under a new gabber gaze on “FUSION”.
