A Place to Go's second LP, the gloriously dreamy and psychedelic Tie-Dye Your Tombstone, pulls from the aspirational spirit of new age synth music, the blunt and wry lyricism of the folk revival and ’80s downtown New York art-pop, and the aesthetic freedom of independent lo-fi—a place where Beverly Glenn-Copeland, Arthur Russell, Phil Elverum, and Nick Drake could all be comfortable. Blending these touchstones together, A Place to Go, creates a unique sonic texture between new age saccharine spirituality and angst-ridden despair—one last grasp for earnest enlightenment underscored by a healthy dose of dry cynicism.
Partially inspired by songwriter Drew Litowitz's professional pursuit as a graphic designer and art director— perpetually immersed in fetishizations of aesthetics and creativity that are often billed as the miracle answer to life’s deep questions—Tie-Dye Your Tombstone explores themes of disillusionment, romanticized love, pain, fear, heartbreak, and hope, all shrouded in a colorful burst of reverb, effects, tie-dye, and magic. It’s a collection of music soundtracking what it means to fall out of love with the world, to fall back in love with yourself, to start all over again, and try to love somebody else completely.
The record was recorded and produced between 2022 and 2024, and was co-produced by Aaron Lindenberg (Aaron is Your Friend). It was mastered by Joe Lambert.
