“Temple of the Mind,” the third single from Tomato Flower’s debut full-length No, transforms romantic anxiety into psychedelic self-exploration. Vocalist/guitarist Austyn Wohlers’ playfully taunting vocal delivery evokes the allusive, euphemistic eroticism of early 60s girl group pop. Lyrically she vacillates between fears of romantic loss and entrapment–contradictions echoed by the frenetically fluctuating synth line–while romance itself feels conspicuously absent.
