Citadel is about the emotional vertigo that manifested when I moved to London, enamored with the heights the city offered. Myst is a more contemplative track, pushing you forward into the fog as you stumble through the crevices of the city. These tracks represent an exploration that is actually self-discovery.
VAMPI collaborated with alt R&B artist Yayoyanoh (UK // collaborator of Drain Gang) and artist/composer Nadah El Shazly (Egypt // collaborator of Algiers, Composer of director Fyzal Boulifa’s award winning film, The Damned Don’t Cry, ColorsxStudios featured artist) to bring an unexpected vocal dimension to these two tracks. Yayoyanoh interpreted Citadel as a soundtrack to dark and hazy nights in the city. Myst, however, intimately details a vulnerable and transformative moment for Nadah. She poetically summarizes the Arabic lyrics here : “Rusty heart, frozen memories, the minutes pass on all the same. Weary, her wings finally fall off, making room for a new beginning.”
