The dog barking at the end of the track is a runt of a mutt named Bella. She lives on the next mountain over. For years, she would wander the ridge, various other neighborhood dogs in tow.

The hurricane dumped feet of rain onto already saturated soil. The mountainside gave way, taking with it the houses of the holler and all who occupied them. Bella still comes by sometimes, but now she’s always alone.
