Hanna Leess explores the dichotomies that define modern womanhood: strength and fragility, conformity and rebellion, silence and noise. These themes unfold both quietly, and thunderously, skipping across genres with country twang, synth-noise, trip-hop and lo-fi jazz. “heavenly mary”, the album’s danciest track, is a weird dancefloor anthem that oscillates between Karen Dreiejer-like vocals and Kate Bush’s melodic infectiousness and encapsulates the dualities between domesticity and freedom.
