Rosie Cheeks is the editor and curator of the music magazine and compilation album called Sinag. It’s named after the universe they come from and will be released in four parts, each focusing on a planet. The first planet release is called Biraddali, an LA-inspired world. It’s a planet that feels like it’s underwater, but it actually isn’t. Coral-inspired architecture and rocky crevices define the landscape, with blue reflections shimmering throughout.
First, the glimmering sounds of jon b raccoon grace the eardrums, with what feels like a vulnerable and emotional intro into Biraddali~like a fragmented memory beacon calling you back from the edge of an interstellar sleep drift. Keshavara's 'Aqua Rāag' is a subaquatic sound trip with bubbly Farfisa, submerged fretless bass, and seashell percussion. It feels like lost library music for a Jacques Cousteau documentary. And then we float over to Monibi's vibey track, where sparse frequencies shimmer like signals trapped between the crevices of Biraddali. Lastly, sq~rn~x uses siren-like calls and eerie productions to tell us a story amongst the ominous drone, forging a lament that trembles with cosmic dread and eager hope.
