“No one knows what lies on the other side of their sonar; once it extends, there’s no memory of what it was like to be without it.”
With his debut LP, ‘echoloto’, marat koshkin sends out a new signal, the 19-track journey expanding on the sonic groundwork of his ‘b4echo’ EP. A personal study of his hometown in Kazakhstan projected into a universal scan of all small towns.
Across the record, marat acts as a cartographer of memory. He converts the melancholy of industrial forms and utilitarian comfort into textured soundscapes, where constructivist dreams and fleeting smiles register as faint, vital light in the profound dark. The album dives into the legends that define these places, the simulations we build to escape them, and the hidden signals that echo back from their concrete and quiet streets.
Operating at the intersection of 'lamebient' nostalgia, glitch-hop, and industrial-experimental design, the artist crafts an anti-megapolis statement. ‘echoloto’ is a familiar form covered in a thin layer of sonar—a raw, evocative map of the world on the other side of the ping.
