Amaterasu (天照) is the goddess of the sun in Japanese mythology. Along with her brothers, the moon god Tsukuyomi (月読) and the storm/sea god Susanoo (須佐之男命), she is considered one of the "Three Precious Children" of the creator god Izanagi (伊邪那岐神). When Tsukuyomi killed Ukemochi (保食神), the goddess of the harvest, Amaterasu exiled her brother, thus separating night from day.
This album is my attempt at writing bright, hopeful music. Music that express my appreciation for the act of creation, my reverence for the natural world, the teachings of Zen Buddhism. Songs of love and merriment, dreams and reflection. As John Cage once said, "the function of art is to imitate Nature in her manner of operation." Thank you for listening.
