DJ Stepdad returns to Image Research with an unreleased track that has been tucked away since 2022.
From Ted Davis: “how to have a seance" sparked in 2022, right after I moved to New York City from California. At the time, I was mostly ingrained in ambient music/journalism and DJ culture was more of a passing interest for me. I had spent some time imagining what a downtempo track might sound like with slide guitar, and asked Ben (Seretan) to collaborate after we met in person for the first time at one of his shows in Brooklyn.
Deep, lush, and meditative, the track ebbs and flows through misty caverns. Pillowy synth chords and distant, serene pedal steel lay gently on crisp rhythms and buzzy bass as bird calls ring out softly in the background. A blissed-out sunrise that balances out the midnight wooziness of DJ STEPDAD's 2-track 'the hits with DJ CLUB'. Idyllic and optimistic, it inherently complements and completes the triptych of tracks, pushing another boundary for the artists and hinting at horizons ahead. - HPT
