Rounak Maiti's third full-length album "Brute Fact/Home Truth" is a searing critique of the self; a deeply personal form of catharsis that has been long overdue; a deeper inquiry into his many "home truths"—things, especially those that are unpleasant, that are known to be true and cannot be ignored; and “brute facts"—facts that cannot be explained in terms of a deeper, more fundamental fact. As it might be put, there may exist some things that just are.
Five years in the making, the album was written through periods of severe isolation, disillusionment and burnout, all while constantly changing jobs and cities. "Brute Fact/Home Truth" leaves behind the gentler, indie-rock textures of previous RM releases; instead constructing a world of dense, dizzying soundscapes filled with synths, wall-of-sound guitars, noisy samples, electric leads and propulsive rhythms. Throughout the tracklist, Rounak's resonant voice often eschews its typically intimate delivery for something that boldly commands attention, even at its breaking point.
