Similar to the blissful euphoria of his 2024 EP ‘the hits with DJ CLUB’, DJ STEPDAD steps back into view with 'frank', the first single off of his upcoming album 'mike', out imminently on Image Research.
Click-clack, skeletal rhythms start and stop in staggered, syncopated patterns. Pulsing, ghostlike synth melodies and pads fade and flicker in and out of frame. An imperceptible, infectious vocal chop carries the track with a hypnotic sway. All of which culminates into a standout track with a hybrid energy, impossible to pin under any one genre or tag.
This is the essence of the DJ Stepdad ethos. Neither here nor there, but instead pushing forward into unknown territory. Each track is challenging and rewarding with each listen, keeping what’s around the corner just out of view. We are glad to be along for the ride, wherever that might take us. - HPT
