On their newest single, the Louisville power trio Wombo comes through with a moody brand of guitar music that seems to compress entire eras and styles into a succinct package. In under three minutes, the music recalls 80s post-punk, 90s indie rock, and all of the music from the 2000s that reflected both eras. The song snakes and broods like vintage Blonde Redhead. Taken from their forthcoming fourth album, Danger in Fives, which comes out in August on Fire Talk, the single is another entry into a discography that explores new possibilities within codified languages.
