The 21-year-old London artist BLACK FONDU fuses decades of ecstatic digital pop into a deep-fried, rainbow-blasted whole. His new single, out now on Nina favorite Scenic Route, takes the kind of hypercolor synths that used to float around on Myspace—a place for friends—and combines them with melodic, heavily processed vocals. It’s a very contemporary stew, no doubt, but it also looks back to an era of warehouse-stained DIY electronics. The result is good enough to make any kid in line at a Drain Gang concert get up from their Supreme folding chair and salute. The track title is not a joke, either; if the music is any guide, BLACK FONDU is up. Nina Nation, you know what to do: Hit that damn play button.
