The forthcoming Calvin LeCompte LP is called Yankee Doodle Comeback and here is the first taste from it. The New York City singer-songwriter and NTS host has been making a hard-to-classify version of bedroom pop for a minute now, and “Farewell Ye Gilded Fog” continues down that path. It’s ambling and lo-fi, and sounds like a stroll around the county fair, a few beers—and maybe a little something else—deep. It’s music to listen to when your AC unit is broken. It’s music that hangs with you, with melodies that sneak out of the murk. “Farewell Ye Gilded Fog” is a minute and a half long, so you can play it five times in a row and it will still be shorter than “Jungleland” by Bruce Springsteen.
