LA is inundated with fashion boys moonlighting as artists, but Extra Small are special. The duo’s hybrid of electronic music and rap has a pop pulse—even their more experimental moments are danceable. Tears: Remixed reimagines their latest album. It feels wrong to listen to this music through headphones; the EP brings to mind that “she should be at the club” internet meme, which was made popular by a tweet suggesting that, because the Berenstain Bears (!) matron is still in her 20s, she should probably be raving. Two moody and trance-like tracks are transformed by Extra Small’s own Jae Han and Levy. Another standout contribution, “Dangerous(You can do it),” comes from the 2hollis-aligned wunderkind producer kimj. The track sounds ready to time travel back to an EDM mainstage in 2012. If the original version of “Dangerous(You can do it)” reads as SOPHIE, this one has Skrillex printed all over it. Rounded out by remixes from Apachi, Martyn Bootyspoon, and atlgrandma, all six songs should be played loud, at a club of some sort.
