“The Truth,” from eternal Nina favorites Chase Ceglie and F.G.S., is another entry into the duo’s whimsical world of Alice-in-Wonderland standards. The Rhode Island-based Ceglie, who was a producer and co-writer on the debut F.G.S. record Tinker Bell’s Cough, has been dripping out singles over the past few months; his newest, “The Truth,” is tender and twangy, like “Islands in the Stream” if Kenny and Dolly did some time at noise shows. There’s a Broadway bend to the tune and some soft-rock sonic staples—a wailing sax solo and the bygone fade-out. The song’s stylish, glossy finishes are punctured by heart. “And life is simple / when all I really want is the truth” sticks long after the silence creeps in.
