Last time we checked in with Nina’s Eric Farber, he released Let Freedom Ring, a great collection of tweaky, brokenhearted Americana. Well, we are here to report, a year and a half later, Farber is still crying into his frothy beverage. The record is called No Chorus but it’s full of ‘em. It’s noisier than Let Freedom Ring, but it still packs that timeless gut punch. “Diane” is a crunched-out pop blast, somewhere between The Jesus and Mary Chain and Frank Black; “Am I Too Blue For You?” sounds like Ministry writing a Magnetic Fields song. “Road Runner (Nachos At The Dancer)” interpolates an eternal classic and turns it into a brutal chunk of high-velocity rock and roll. I’m going to say it, on this pleasant Tuesday here in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn: You can add No Chorus to the canon of lo-fi breakup records.
