So as one of my first assignments in second year, we had to write and compose two separate tracks. As someone who cannot compose, sing or play any instruments, I (as usual) went really far outside the box to produce something abstract, yet chill. A lot of guitar samples were used and significantly altered to build a composition. Was quite a stretch, but it was doable. One of my favourite parts of that process was the first sound in the track, which was two separate small snippets of an acoustic guitar being played, looped, reversed, and heavily reverberated. For vocals, flex pitch was my best friend honestly. And weirdly, the track sounding like an ocean-esque Miami Horror track was a direction that I went down subconsciously.
The lyrics are quite interesting. They're Owl City-inspired, like a lot of my written tracks. This one in particular was more so inspired by Sky Sailing. The theme was about a sea whose death hints at the flaw and eventual downfall of humanity; despite that, the sea hold no ill will and is calm and accepting of their demise. It sort of became an environmentally charged track about how us as a society ruin the flora and fauna around us, even as they continue to exist as themself and nothing more. There's some hidden relatability that I liked exploring.
Really bizarre track, but I like An Old Maroon Sea quite a bit. That other track I wrote for the same uni assignment I hope to be releasing soonish, so look out for that. Anyway, thank you all for listening, and I'll see you'se next time!
