Lives at Arabia Mtn is a commissioned sound piece made for an event called An Evening of Story & Sound in the Urban Forest by Lostintheletters in collaboration with Trees Atlanta.

The 3 and 3/4ths minute sound collage by armari e, aka becca rodriguez, combines field recordings, ceramics vessel percussion, flute, and feedback to offer an audio portrait of Arabia Mountain.
Amphibians, and sprawling mountains of lichened mossy stone, this puddle palace offers amphibian solace, prime stargazing, and blissful walking adventures on the outskirts of Atlanta.

In addition to sharing this track, Call Waitn is pleased to share a video of extended live improv by Armari e using their new handcrafted ceramic flutes.

Below is Becca's message in a bottle to Scott of Lostintheletters...

"Lives at Arabia Mtn features two tree field recordings taken at Arabia Mountain on Jan. 24, 2025 ~12:30pm, and Nov. 2, 2024 ~9:30pm accompanied by flute and resounding drums, drones, and feedback distortion all made with my ceramic vessels.

My ID skills are a bit rusty, but I believe my daytime field recording (1/24/25) is a cricket frog, perhaps the Eastern Cricket Frog. The nighttime field recording (11/4/24) features cicadas and cars and was taken during Arabia Mtn's Stargazing & Mythology night.

The ceramic drums begin more calm and towards the end get a bit more clanky and intentionally blown out -- I was thinking about Arabia Mtn's history of granite quarrying here. I grew up spending summers in Conyers with my dad who lived 5 min from Arabia Mtn. We'd always take walks and look at our reflections in the remnants of shiny finished abandoned granite. While working on this piece I also learned that Arabia Mtn's granite was used here in NY in the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge.
But anyhow...if the end is too loud I am happy to edit a bit. Just some thoughts I had during composition I thought I'd share :] "
