“Emellay” is the second EP released by Upstate NY-based artist music lovers anonymous (MLA). The project can be seen as a sort of sequel to his first EP, “Wherever Chance Leads Me, I Will Go As A Friend,” released on formforum earlier this year. There are familiar sounds: humble field recordings, string-like textures, with an increased emphasis on controlled discord. Samples from important periods in his life are re-contextualized into something individualized: an interpretive dance between the weight of life and the bliss of insignificance. A pseudo-self titled project, “Emellay” functions as an unfinished self-portrait. Or maybe rather, a blind contour. These tracks were created without an end—with closed eyes—like a story being told as it is written...a story taking place in a bedroom, at a laptop, with a MIDI controller. It is an ode to an undeveloped identity, leaving melodic artifacts in its wake.
