Take Away The Pain follows infectious singles "1000%" and "Pop Song" and pulls together a sound that WEBB has been moving to over his short run of releases. Already known as a fixture in Toronto's indie scene for crafting a sound that's emotionally raw and sonically immersive, WEBB blends the fuzzy aggression of garage punk with the infectious beats of Y2K-era pop, arriving at a melancholic attempt at post hyperpop.
Focus track "Gas" brings into focus everything that makes WEBB interesting: catchy hooks, clever lyrics and undeniable energy. Flanked by core collaborators Josh McIntyre (Prince Innocence) and Nathan Burley (Young Clancy), WEBB is a project that pulls in a much wider group of local contributors, like a house party that moved over to the club.
"Take Away The Pain marked a turning point for me as a songwriter," Webb continues. "This started as an experiment years ago. I wanted to write something unapologetically catchy, leaning into the tongue-in-cheek world of pop music with lyrics and melodies I wouldn’t normally create. Years later, I reshaped the sonic vision and that’s when it truly came to life. I wanted to lean into the aesthetic of pop music and create something that was a tongue-in-cheek comment about mainstream music but also a tribute to great pop hooks... like crying alone in the club with your electric guitar still plugged in."
