Last December, we interviewed the Barcelona-born, London-based artist Eterna about his particular brand of downcast, head-noddy indie rock. Now, as winter has turned to spring, Eterna has a new EP out. The record exists in the general musical mode that Eterna and his larger London cohort have been carving out for a minute now. Blonde Redhead and Dean Blunt remain touchstones, at least to my ears. And that’s all I got sometimes: my ears. Anyway. Breakbeats collide with indie rock guitars. The album closer, “The things you know,” points to something a bit more poppy, which made me wonder—and here you can go into the Carrie Bradshaw voice in your head—what would happen if some of these kids slipped out of their aloof slippers, and tried hard to write an anthem?
