“Playthings,” from snuggle’s forthcoming debut Goodbyehouse, feels candy-colored in comparison to the rest of the swooning music coming out of their native Copenhagen (the city’s gained so much hype that it inspired a Sp****y editorial playlist). It’s syrupy and seductive, with a romanticized seediness and pop sensibility à la Lana Del Rey, or the masochism of early Melanie Martinez. The track's languid swagger and a delicately groovy rhythm section can be traced back to the members' other projects, Baby In Vain and Liss. It’s a winsome song about losing agency to love—“We’re each other’s playthings / Wind you up and watch you dancing.”
